イタリア北東部、アドリア海に面したベネツィアは、中世から東西貿易の中継地として繁栄。

「アドリア海の女王」と呼ばれた。

運河の中には100を超える島が散在し、400以上の橋でつながれている不思議な都市だ。

世界遺産登録は1987年。10もの登録基準をほぼ網羅しているまれにみる世界遺産。

下はサンマルコ広場

18世紀、ヴェネツィアに侵入したナポレオンは幾何学模様の敷石が美しい広場を見て「世界一美しい広場」と絶賛したという　

サンマルコ広場。　サン・マルコ寺院をはじめ、大鐘楼、時計塔、ドゥカーレ宮などが点在。

ベネツィアといえば、ゴンドラとベネツィアンマスク。

マスクを見ていたら、なんか『からくりサーカス』を思い出してしまった！

Venice, located in northeastern Italy and facing the Adriatic Sea, has prospered as a hub for East-West trade since the Middle Ages. It was known as the "Queen of the Adriatic."

The city is a fascinating place with over 100 scattered islands within its canals, connected by more than 400 bridges. It's a unique cityscape.

Venice was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987. It is a rare World Heritage site that covers almost all ten selection criteria.

Below that is St. Mark's Square. In the 18th century, when Napoleon invaded Venice, he praised the square with its beautiful geometric pavement as the "most beautiful square in the world." St. Mark's Square is home to various landmarks such as St. Mark's Basilica, the Campanile (bell tower), the Clock Tower, and the Doge's Palace.

When you think of Venice, gondolas and Venetian masks come to mind. Looking at the masks, it somehow reminds me of "Karakuri Circus"!
