８．ラパヌイ国立公園／チリ
今日、ゆーがと旅するところは、イースター島（＝ラパヌイ島） です～
本土のチリから3700km離れたイースター島は、南太平洋に浮かんでいます。
周囲58km、モアイという顔の長い石造が900体も残っているのですが、ほとんどが、16世紀に起こった部族間の争いで倒れ、無残な状態で放置されていたのです！
当時の知事セルジオさんが何とかしたいと思っていたところ、イースター島を日本のテレビ番組「世界ふしぎ発見！」制作スタッフが訪れ、番組中にセルジオさんのメッセーを流したのです。
それを見ていた日本企業、香川県に本社があるクレーンメーカーの “タダノ” の社員の方が
“自社のクレーンを使ってモアイ像を立て直すプロジェクト” を立ち上げたそうです！
なんという心打たれる話でしょうか♪
そして、今わたしたちが目にする15体の整列するモアイ像となったのです！
そのプロジェクトが終了した年に、“ラパヌイ国立公園”は世界遺産に登録されました。

Today, the place we are traveling is Easter Island (also known as Rapa Nui)!
Easter Island is located in the South Pacific, 3,700 kilometers away from mainland Chile.
With a circumference of 58 kilometers, the island is home to around 900 stone statues called Moai, which have long faces. However, most of them were toppled during tribal conflicts in the 16th century and were left in a desolate state.
At that time, Governor Sergio wanted to do something about it.
Coincidentally, the production staff of the Japanese TV show "Sekai Fushigi Hakken!" visited Easter Island and aired Sergio's message during the program.
Upon seeing the message, an employee of "Tadano," a crane manufacturer headquartered in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, launched a project to re-erect the Moai statues using their company's cranes.
What a touching story, isn't it?
As a result, we now see 15 aligned Moai statues!
In the year the project was completed, "Rapa Nui National Park" was registered as a World Heritage site.
