19. ロス・グラシアレス国立公園／アルゼンチン

今日、ゆーがと旅するところは、ロス・グラシアレス国立公園　です～　（　1981年世界遺産登録）

アンデス山脈最南端に位置する世界遺産。グラシアレスとはスペイン語で『氷河』を意味し、ロスは英語のTheに当たり、ロサンゼルス（ロスエンジェルス）のロスと同じです。

南極大陸、グリーンランドに次いで世界で3番目に大きな氷河地帯があるロス・グラシアレス国立公園では、

とても大きな氷河が大地を覆っていて、東京と神奈川を足したぐらいの大きさです。

ここで一番有名な氷河が、全長35kmにもなるペリト・モレノ氷河です。

水面に出ているのは、氷山全体のわずか10%に、過ぎません。

このペリト・モレノ氷河が青く見えるのは、なぜでしょうか？

それは、氷の中に含まれる空気の泡が少ないため、氷が透明になり、透明な氷は、青い光だけを反射するからです！

地球の温暖化で世界中の氷河が後退するなか、この氷河だけは依然として1万年以上前の氷期と同じ活動を続けている、というから驚きです！

Today, the place you’re traveling to with Yuga is Los Glaciares National Park, which was registered as a World Heritage site in 1981.

 It is located at the southern end of the Andes Mountains.

The word 'Glaciares' means 'glaciers' in Spanish, and 'Los' is equivalent to 'The' in English, similar to 'Los Angeles.'

Los Glaciares National Park, which has the third largest glacier area in the world after Antarctica and Greenland, is covered by very large glaciers.

The size is comparable to combining Tokyo and Kanagawa.

The most famous glacier here is the Perito Moreno Glacier, which extends up to 35 kilometers.

Only about 10% of the entire iceberg appears above the water surface.

Why does the Perito Moreno Glacier appear blue?

That's because there are fewer air bubbles in the ice, making it transparent.

Transparent ice reflects only blue light, which is why it appears blue.

While glaciers around the world are retreating due to global warming, it is astonishing that this glacier continues to maintain the same activity as the Ice Age over 10,000 years ago!"
